AMHL: Bisons Still Undefeated!
- Submitted by

The Foothills CFR Chemical Bisons are still undefeated.

The Bisons boast a 14-0-2 record, and beat the Grande Peace Ernies Sports Storm 6-3 on Nov. 19 and the MLAC Beverly Optimists 2-1 in the team’s most recent two-day road trip.

The team also finished an important four-game road trip on Nov. 6 against the Fort Sasketchewan Boston Pizza Rangers that ended in a 2-2 tie.

The day before, the Bisons defeated the Knight of Columbus Pats 4-3.

The Pats game was close, with a 3-3 tie in the third period.

Tarun Fizer scored the Bisons’ fourth goal for the win.

The Bisons walked away with a 2-2 tie against the Rangers on Nov. 6, despite coming out weaker than they have all season.

Bisons goalie Ben Laidlaw was in net for both games, as Hunter Young was was injured.

Laidlaw made 41 saves in the first game, and 37 in the second game versus the Rangers.

Bisons coach Sandy Henry is pleased with the start of the season.

However, he wants his players to continue to play like they are hungry for the win.

“We know we didn’t come out with our best effort in those two games, but we are still finding a way to hang on to this unbeaten streak,” said Henry.

“We are playing teams that aren’t scared to lose and really want to beat us. Teams know they have to put in their best effort to beat us, so we are facing some good competition.”

Being unbeaten 16 games into the season has put some pressure on Bisons players to continue to perform well.

“We gripped the sticks a little bit too much in that tie game against Fort Saskatchewan. We just got to loosen up a little bit and play a bit more freely,” said Henry.

“Saying that, we can’t be sloppy in our own end. We have to cut down on turning over the puck.”

The Bisons players have played better since that road trip.

Currently, the Calgary Buffaloes are the closest team to the Bisons in the South Division, with a 12-1-3 record.

The teams are scheduled to meet on Dec. 11 in Strathmore for the first time this season.

In the North Division, Sherwood Park holds a 13-1-2 record.
